Treating Your Slip Disc

A herniated or slip disc is a problem that refers to a rubbery disc between your spinal bones. A disc herniates when its jelly-like nucleus pushes against its outer ring due to wear and tear or a sudden injury. This pressure against the outer ring may cause lower back pain and cause slip disc problems. A herniated disc can be treated with surgery if required, non-surgically, or in some cases, it doesn’t need any treatment at all. Slip disc treatment can be done in many ways.

A slipped disc can cause neurological problems too, in that case, you should only consider going to your doctor and take it from there.

 Non-surgical treatments for slipped disc:

  1. Rest.

Getting proper rest will give your herniated disc time to heal and is recommended by every doctor.

  1. Physical therapy.

Basic physical therapy like exercise and stretching would help you relieve pressure on the nerve root and get you better.

  1. Chiropractic adjustment.

A chiropractic adjustment relieves muscle pressure and is known to help with slip disc treatment. Low-velocity chiropractic manipulations help people with no neurological problems

  1. Heat and cold therapy.

Heat and cold therapy is a vastly accepted treatment of bone troubles. Ice packs and heat packs help with loosening tight muscles, reduce swelling and inflammation, and pain.

  1. Medication.

If the pain gets too much and surgery isn’t an option, you can manage your pain with painkillers. You can ask your doctor to prescribe some according to your pain level.
